Cyber criminals are opening the doors to analog criminals by increasingly offering capabilities-as-a-service.
What we see here is another example of malware as a service, the added twist being it is being offered on Mac OSX.
While attacks against Mac's have remained low over the years, as they increase in popularity they become a more attractive target. Particularly in enterprises.
It will be interesting to see if this opens up the gates for more Mac-specific malware in the future.
MacSpy is advertised as the "most sophisticated Mac spyware ever”, with the low starting price of free. While the idea of malware-as-a-service (MaaS) isn’t a new one with players such as Tox and Shark the game, it can be said that MacSpy is one of the first seen for the OS X platform.
