As the holiday season approaches, an uptick in phishing and social engineering scams is not uncommon. However, the rising Bitcoin price will attract more criminals.The suggestions for protection remain largely the same though. Users should be wary of unsolicited emails with links, or even phone calls that ask users to divulge passwords or other personal information, or ask for remote access to machines.
During the past week, several phishing attempts against Bitcoin-related sites and Bitcoin users have been reported. For example, CheckPhish, a service that keeps track of recent phishing pages against high-profile brands, has spotted five phishing domains targeting the Blockchain wallet service, one of the largest on the market.
